I started my public health career in 1971 in Wollo Ethiopia. I organized setting up shelters to feed and treat people during the draught and hunger disaster. Terre Des Hommes invited me to study medicine in the Netherlands. I studied tropical agriculture in Deventer and medicine and medical biology at the VU and UvA while working at Kriterion. In 1997 I co-founded "Foundation Isob (International Support of Education, Library and Healthcare in South Ethiopia)". Since 1997 I work at medical Faculty of Amsterdam, in medical microbiology department Virology molecular diagnostic and research unit AMC. Being a diaspora I am an important connection and bridge to the Ethiopian peoples and culture.
