Born with a congenital heart defect, Mark barely survived his first week of life. Before reaching the age of two, Mark underwent two open heart surgeries. Then one day in May of 2001, at 23 yeard old, Mark was told that we have dying. Without a life-saving heart and double-lung transplant he wouldn't see his 25th birthday.
After coming near death Mark was put on the transplant waiting list where he waited for nearly a year. Finally, in September of 2002, the miracle happened. Mark successfully underwent a heart and double lung transplant on September 7th, 2002.
