When considering new things, it's important to set personal priorities
Have you ever wanted to start something new, then don’t?
Have you ever said yes to an appointment or an assignment only to cancel later? Have you ever promised yourself that you would not engage in a bad habit and found yourself doing it even more?
We often wait for something to happen before taking action. Take our email responses as an example. When a long mail arrives, more often than not, we are quick to ignore it. The email sent can be an important assignment or a business opportunity, yet we chose to ignore it! The stakes are significant if the issue concerns our personal lives or career. If we want to spend our time on more meaningful tasks, we need to create a path for ourselves. If we want to control our future and decide the direction of our lives, then setting our personal priorities could never be more important!
Be clear about what is important and what is not
Everyone encounters the problem of procrastination some time in one way or another. We consciously or unconsciously block ourselves from accomplishing some task or a project. All of us have a different set of priorities. When we give something or someone a priority, it implies that we place it before everything else, with respect to time and importance. For our families and careers, we placed it as very important because that is what we treasure and value most in our lives. But for others who are beset with financial difficulties, the utmost priority is to explore a way to eliminate the problem of debts. Situations happen and change in many ways but one thing is clear: We will find ways to support our core values and deepest desires.
How do you know what is important when you are setting your priorities? It’s in our daily chores and living. We are so preoccupied with the things that bring little reward and no satisfaction at all and yet we are trapped in the “doing” aspects of life. As we look back and ponder, we often regret on the things we have not achieved or set our stall to achieving it yet. Life is brief and we need to maximize our time to do the things we love to do or are passionate about before our last breath is taken away!
All aspects of life must be considered and mirrored when setting our priorities. In areas of physical, financial, social, career and even spiritual needs to be considered for a more compelling and a fulfilling life. Situations always change and if we feel that we are not financially independent or as affluent as we would like to be, then our outmost priority is to build our wealth. It’s the same with our careers and social life. If we find that we are not networking enough or attending social functions to get to know our future partners or even our prospective employers, then our careers and social life will take precedence.
As a great motivational speaker Tony Robbins once said, “Your ability to achieve success in life is rarely a matter of your capability, but your motivation”. If you are motivated to take action and set your personal priorities, then we are able to overcome any giants or test that comes along our pathway. By learning to tap into the power of intention or “why”, you are ultimately finding compelling reasons for yourself in which you desire to make your dreams come true! The stronger your “whys” are, the higher your chances of prioritizing what is important to you and vice versa.
Ways to create and identify your priorities
Goal Setting is Important
Goal setting is the key to setting our priorities. By identifying what is that we want to achieve at the end of the day, we know exactly where to divert our efforts and attention towards. It serves to prevent us from being easily distracted and drifting away from what we want to achieve. It is knowing what we want and what we desire to do that serves as a reminder for us to prioritize. When we have clear goals and personal priorities, we are able to constantly review our plans and adjust them to reflect our changing priorities and experience.
Create a Personal Reminder
When we arise every morning, we look at ourselves in the mirror. We see a reflection and it is a good feeling. Good feelings create good thoughts and good thoughts compel us to take action. It’s our own personal reminder of what we want to be and what we want to achieve on this day. Once we have good feelings and good thoughts, we will remember to block out any negative thoughts or damaging behavior on that day.
Setting Your Intention
How and when should you go about setting an intention? You could set an intention every day. Your intention could be to find joy in your work, to keep yourself open to any opportunities that are likely to take you towards your dreams, or even just to be grateful for what you have and who you are right now.
Our intentions are so strong that sometimes we feel defensive and resist change because we feel that what we are heading for is the best and right path to take. No one can change our intentions because we believe it is RIGHT and there are no substitutes. We create our own world and our own way. It is vital to set our intention right at all times when we are setting our personal priorities and goals.
Monitor Your Progress
Always be Aware of Low Energy
Recall that everything, which includes your thoughts, has an energy frequency that can be calibrated to determine whether it will strengthen or weaken you. When you find yourself either thinking in low energy ways, or immersed in low, weakening energy, resolve to bring a higher vibration to the presence of a situation. It’s always important to have high energy levels so you can prioritize your thoughts and take positive actions to achieve your goals for the day.
Beware of Self Sabotage
We are our worst enemies! Sometimes we are not aware of it and make plans that would indirectly hinder our progress in life. Paraphrasing what Sun Tzu once said, “Power comes from not being able to retreat!” In order to succeed in life, we will have to burn our ships when progressing towards our goals and setting our priorities right from the start. To set it right, banish all the negative thoughts and desires and move forward with fresh and positive intentions. We do not want to look back because it brings us painful memories and embarrassing moments in life. There is only one way to move forward and that is, we do not want to rekindle the past which sometimes can be a hindrance to our priorities, our development and success in life.
