President’s Message

jonathan_low

It is an indeed an honor and a humbling privilege to serve as the President of the Global Speakers Federation for the year 2015-2016, the first Malaysian and Asian elected for this prestigious role.

Building on the foundation and vision established by our founders in 1997, the Global Speakers Federation is now into its 18th year. The mission of the Federation is to champion, support and provide resources to help develop and grow associations of professional speakers worldwide. Together with your Executive Committee, I am committed and focused to spearhead this vision and mission.

We are delighted to welcome Brazil and Belgium as the latest countries to join the other member associations in the Global Speakers Federation: Australia, Canada, France, Germany (including Austria and Switzerland), Holland, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, Southern Africa, United Kingdom and Ireland, and the United States of America.  More than 5 million people and their lives are touched, inspired, transformed and empowered by the individual members at the combined associations that make up the Global Speakers Federation.

As we move into a new term for the Global Speakers Federation, we will continue to strengthen and grow the four core values developed over the last two years - Communication, Collaboration, Transparency, and Continuity.

Communication: We will continue working hard communicating to our member associations in more and different ways through Council representatives and member association boards.

Collaboration: We will engage association representatives to gather ideas and work on transforming them into measurable results that benefit professional speakers associations globally. This will include collaboration with relevant industry partners from the meetings industry, speaker bureaus, HR, education and technology experts.

Transparency: In today's world of upheavals and unrest, transparency has become more important than ever. As ideas are converted into action, the Federation will openly and clearly share details with all member associations.

Continuity: It takes time to implement great ideas with deliberate focused efforts. This will include growing new associations globally, equipping them to help their members attain a global mindset, developing the GSF brand, plus ongoing sharing of best practices, and building up the global resource portal to benefit all associations.

I am delighted to work together with a very strong, talented and dedicated GSF leadership team, comprising Lenora Billings-Harris from USA (Immediate Past President), Nabil Doss from Canada (President Elect), Shirley Taylor from Singapore (Vice President), Shari Bricks from Canada (Executive Director), Paul ter Wal from Holland (Treasurer), David Avrin from USA (Secretary) and Elias Kanaris from New Zealand (Member at Large).

Together, we are passionately driven and committed to expand on these four core values - Communication, Collaboration, Transparency and Continuity - as we build on new possibilities and opportunities with optimism.

As I mentioned during my acceptance speech at the National Speakers Association Convention in Washington DC, USA, I am “At Your Service” and “We are at your service”. We are here to listen and thank you for the opportunity to serve and be of service.
